After school Math Classes for a Solid Education Base in Your Kids

A big mistake parents and teachers make, when it comes to developing the student’s academic ability is to limit learning within the classroom. Although classrooms are most likely the chief source of instruction for kids, learning should extend beyond its confines. If you truly want to enhance your child’s aptitude and attitude towards learning, you need to keep them engaged and motivated. When done in a correct manner, your child will also discover the true joys of learning.

In order to do that, first and foremost you need to develop a proper atmosphere for reading. Truth be told, kids who develop the love for reading tends to develop a love for learning. Reading is instrumental in not just developing your child’s vocabulary; it also helps them to process information faster. A good reader has an enhanced ability to learn and grasp technical subjects like science and math. That’s why so many programs focus on developing the child’s ability to read, even in programs like ‘mathematics for kids’.

One such program is Kumon, which helps develop your child’s math and English skills. It's unlike regular tuition classes and acts more like a supplementary learning program. It focuses on helping your child become better learners.  To achieve that, they try to assess their appropriate learning level. They carry out a diagnostic test, basis which the kid is assigned his/her level from which they will begin the learning process. This method focuses on strengthening the learning gaps that a child may have. Through practice and repetition, their learning core is strengthened. They use effective self-learning tools that help develop the child’s critical thinking and reasoning skills.

Students and kids must be given the opportunity to express their opinion about their lessons and learning. Make sure that you create an atmosphere where they feel comfortable while expressing their concerns. Even if you disagree with their point of view, don’t invalidate them outrightly. If they feel like their opinions don’t matter it might get them disengaged from the learning process. Good learners believe that their opinion matters and it gives them the reassurance that they can be more open about their words without having the fear of being judged.

Every child has their own learning preferences and a style that's most suited for them. Some have a dominant style while others like to mix and match with various techniques. There isn’t necessarily a right way or a wrong way. It’s whatever that is most suitable to fit into their learning process. By helping your child discover his/her preferred style or technique, you can greatly improve the quality of their learning. Game-based learning is another great way to deepen their learning and improve their non-cognitive skills.

It is important that you motivate your child to explore the world around them. Ask them questions to help them better connect with their surroundings. This will help them to efficiently classify, categorise and think critically whenever they have seen or experienced something new. This way, every moment becomes an opportunity to learn something, and this will motivate them to extend learning beyond their classroom.
